Soak the dal for twenty minute, keep it aside. This procedure is to get thickness for curry. If you dislike thickness, can avoid this step.
Remove the outer skin of the ash gourd. Peel it properly, make sure that the outer area to be in white color as shown below. Green color to be scratched away. Then cut into parts and remove the seeds inside it. Wash it and finally chop it into medium pieces as shown above.
Remove the outer layers of the onion, chop it into thin slices. Wash the tomato and chop it into any size, no matter it will be crushed after cooked. Cut the green chilies into two parts of each one. Make sure that vegetable to be washed before chopping.
Take a pressure cooker of medium sized. Put the chopped ash gourd. Drain the water from the dal and add it into the cooker. Put the chopped tomatoes, green chilies, Onion and little curry leaves (two spring). Then add the turmeric powder, chilly powder and salt one tsp. Salt can add more after tasting. Pour the measured water, mix it well. Taste the salt and add if required. Pour two tsp of coconut oil. Close the cooker and place it on the stove. Reduce the flame to medium. The dish to be cooked on medium flame, with one time whistle. After that, remove the cooker from stove.
Let the pressure of the cooker cool down. Open the lid and Put one spring of curry leave and one tsp of coconut oil and mix it well. Taste the salt and spiciness. Add if required.
Please take care of the flame while cooking and the other thing is if you don't like sourness more, you can reduce the tomato to one, and to avoid spicy, you can reduce chilly powder. This can be increased or decreased as per ones sufficiency.
This curry is best to be served with rice, chapati and even dosa.
This curry can be prepared from tomato and cucumber instead of ash gourd.
